Mark 2:17b - I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
The purpose of Kairos of Virginia is to build strong Christian Communities within Virginia Correctional Centers.
Kairos is a continuing prison ministry launched with the presentation of a Three Day Short course in Christianity derived from the Cursillo/Emmaus Programs. Beginning with an introduction on Thursday evening, the course runs from 8:00AM to 7:30PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Kairos Short course is offered by an inter-denominational team made up of approximately 35 clergy and lay men and women drawn from throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. New teams are formed in order to present subsequent Three Day Short Courses at six-month intervals.
Requirements to serve on a Kairos team include:
1. Commit to attending team meetings.
2. Commit to attend monthly reunions and other retreats to encourage residents and reinforce grouping.
3. Pass a criminal background check. Some Correctional Centers do not permit anyone with a criminal history to enter the institution. However, such persons can serve in other ways.
